The Team

The Core Team

I am broadly interested in how interactions at different levels of biological organization drive the evolutionary process, from epistasis between loci within a genome, to social interactions among individuals in a population, to coevolutionary arm-races between species in a community. My work focuses on natural populations and field studies of selection and inheritance in taxa ranging from snakes to insects to flowers.

Director of Mountain Lake Biological Station

Charlotte is as an evolutionary biology and behavioral ecology PhD candidate being co-advised by Prof. Landry and Butch Brodie. They study environmental drivers of variation in sexual selection across space and time. Their work primarily focuses on the role of population demographics, age, and behavior in the evolution of weaponry in male forked fungus beetles. Charlotte is excited about expanding their research to apply contagion-based computational approaches to studying aggression and social behaviors

PhD Candidate

I am a PhD student interested in how interactions between species affect their evolutionary history, specifically the relationships between insects and their host food sources. I am developing a project investigating the relationship between the forked fungus beetle and its various fungal hosts species.

PhD Candidate

I am an undergraduate at UVA interested broadly in individual behavioral patterns and evolutionary ecology. My work with the Brodie lab focuses on how personality affects resource defense behaviors in the forked fungus beetle. I also helped manage the isopods in Madison Karram's work.

Undergraduate Researcher

I am a behavioral ecologist interested in the evolution of social behavior. My work focuses on how organisms communicate and respond to past social experiences, as well as how those dynamics change as organisms age. In practice, I manipulate and observe a lot of forked fungus beetle fights, combining behavioral experiments and chemical analysis of social cues to answer my questions.

PhD Candidate

I am a PhD student interested in behavioral ecology, specifically the dynamics of group living. My work focuses on understanding how aggregation formation is driven and maintained, and I am investigating my research questions in the terrestrial isopod species Porcellio laevis.

PhD Candidate

I love insects, social behavior, and (broadly) evolutionary ecology. As lab manager, I facilitate experiments, mentor undergraduates, keep the forked fungus beetles happy, and work with everyone in the lab to keep research running smoothly.
